Offering Selfless Service

Recently I started reading the Bhagavad Gita, commonly known as the Gita. The Gita offers a unique way of life that eases tension so that you can enjoy a happy life. Gita, apart from being a religious scripture, is a scripture of life as well. It is a way of life based on faith and devotion. It truly is a beautiful read.

On this particular morning when I opened up the Gita and continued my reading, I was on the subject of Selfless Service:

“One who shirks action does not attain freedom; no one can gain perfection by abstaining from work. Fulfill all your duties; action is better than inaction.”

The chapter went on to relay:

“At the beginning, mankind and the obligation of selfless service were created together. “Through selfless service, you will always be fruitful and find the fulfillment of your desires”: this is the promise of the Creator.”

This charged me with positive energy as I continued to read:

“The spiritually minded, who eat in the spirit of service, are freed from all their sins; but the selfish, who prepare food for their own satisfaction, eat sin. Living creatures are nourished by food and food is nourished by rain; rain itself is the water of life, which comes from selfless worship and service.”

Where Do You Want to Go?

Inspired to fulfill my duties and provide selfless worship and service I meditated on this. What could I do? How can I help? After some contemplation, my inner voice replied: You are blessed with so many qualities. Share just one and your journey will begin. Today I begin my journey.

What if we all began to take action and be of service to others without expectations? Can you think of what you can offer? Think of the many selfless services you can offer today.
